Full Tour Description: Budapest Street Food
Let’s explore Budapest and its cuisine with an expert local guide. You’ll start the Budapest Street Food walking tour with a visit to some traditional Hungarian food producers at a local market in downtown Budapest. Of course, we’ll be sampling different foods as we go. And while there, you’ll hear stories of how Hungarian families used to produce their favorite traditional dishes. Also you’ll have a chance to see how locals make ‘lángos’, the very special fried bread that is much loved in Central Europe.
Because we Hungarians love meat served with meat and a side of meat to go with it, the Budapest Street Food tour continues with a visit to a local butcher’s shop. From a selection of fine products you can indulge in various fresh meat items served with delicious pickled vegetables. Throughout this culinary journey, your guide will explain the traditions, customs and unforgettable stories of how much Hungarians love to eat!
When visiting Hungary you must taste ‘pörkölt’. This is the real Goulash, a rich stew made of specially chosen ingredients and flavored with the famous sweet or spicy ‘paprika’. With us, you will have a chance to try it with different ingredients, from one made of meat to special vegetable versions.
Wandering in downtown Budapest the tour visits a small family-owned patisserie. It has it’s own hidden courtyard, which gives you a quick peek into an example of Budapest’s stunning architecture. You’ll definitely want to see it!
Now let’s get on with the real food part of the tour…beer! Our Budapest Street Food tour concludes with a tasting of three different craft beers at a local brewery. Whilst there, your guide will fill you in on the background with Hungarian beers along with some exciting stories connected to the country’s history.
Absolute walking tours run with small groups and generally have less than 15 participants. This makes them interactive and personal. It also gives you plenty of chances to ask questions and get to know your guide. Hit them up later for local tips and hints of where to go and what else to do.
Important note: we try our very best to cater for dietary requirements. But due to local food customs we cannot guarantee that this will be possible in all cases. Options for vegetarians, guests with allergies and religious dietary restrictions may be very limited.
